Speaker of the House John Boehner said there was no deal reached on the budget in a meeting Tuesday with the White House, raising the possibility of a government shutdown.
"The Speaker told the president that the House will not be put in a box and forced to choose between two options that are bad for the country," a statement released from Mr. Boehner's office said.
With the possibility of a government shutdown looming, Republican leaders seem prepared to attempt passage of an additional continuing resolution. The Associated Press reported that Mr. Boehner was prepared to offer a continuing resolution in lieu of a budget agreement.
