The Monologue: Joba's demise?

The question about Joba Chamberlain this year was supposed to be: Is he taking over for Mariano Rivera yet? Is he going to be the Yankees' No. 1 starter?

Rewind back to the Summer of Joba, 2007, the year he saved the Yankees' season. What were expectations then?

Now? He isn't even allowed to enter the fight for the No. 5 starter spot.

In four years, he has gone from the future of the franchise to irrelevancy and, maybe worse, banishment.

GM Brian Cashman admitted to to the Post that with options Joba cold be headed to the minors. Now, Cashman would have said that about anyone who does not have a set spot. The GM also went on to say he expects Chamberlain to be in the bullpen. So Chamberlain may not be going anywhere, but he certainly is not going up.
