Billionaire Donald Trump plunged into Republican politics today, telling an enthusiastic crowd that if he runs for the White House -- and wins -- that "America will be respected again."
The real estate developer and reality TV star said he'll decide by June whether to join the crowded field trying to defeat President Obama.
His reason? America, Trump said, is becoming "the laughingstock of the world."
The man known to viewers of NBC's The Apprentice was a surprise addition to the list of potential GOP presidential candidates speaking before thousands of activists at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
His remarks drew lots of applause and cheers from the crowd, who will play a key role in grass-roots organizing for the eventual 2012 GOP presidential nominee.
