February 3, 2011 is the first day of the Chinese New Year and starts the year of the Rabbit. A hot Google trend, Chinese New Year 2011 begins with the New Moon on the first day of the new year (February 3) and ends on the full moon 15 days later (February 17).
The 15th day is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays. The Chinese New Year festivities are sometimes called the Lunar New Year, especially by people outside China.
Traditions for the Chinese New Year are plentiful. It's a time that families come together, decorate their homes, and celebrate. For the 2011 Chinese New Year, many toys and decorations will have a rabbit theme.
