Yahoo plans digital newsstand for tablets

Yahoo unveiled plans Thursday to launch a digital newsstand for tablet devices, distributing content from a broad range of publishers to users in exchange for a cut of advertising and subscription revenue.

The service, to be called "Livestand," will allow users to create a personalized news reading experience from a variety of feeds. Yahoo's finance, sports and celebrity gossip channels will be among the featured feeds, along with newspapers, magazines and other content.

Livestand will launch some time in the first half of the year, chief product officer Blake Irving told reporters in a conference call. Terms of its revenue sharing deals with publishers were not disclosed.
