At least schedule favors Rockets

Kyle Lowry will not check the standings, or he will at least fight the urge. Luis Scola looks only after wins, giving him several days in the dark.

They know the news is not good.

Yet the Rockets believe that even after Wednesday's 106-103 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, they have given themselves a chance to make a late-season playoff push. Still, it might be best if they avoid close examination of the standings.

The Rockets have gone 5-1 since the All-Star break, but they have 3½ games and three teams separating them from the Western Conference's No. 8 seed.

However, the Rockets cling to the hope they are finally playing at a level that could bring them a playoff spot.

"I love the position we put ourselves in, but we have to take advantage of it," Lowry said. "There is no room for error for us. We have to win every single game that we can possibly win. We have to do it big every time we get on the floor."
