Flint Powers Catholic vs. Yale - Boys Basketball

Bill Khan from The Flint Journal will do a live blog from the Yale vs. Flint Powers Catholic boys' basketball regional championship game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Morris.

Just to give some of the early arrivals to this blog something to read before I start it up shortly before game time, here are some pregame notes:

Powers Catholic has won three straight regional championships, something the school accomplished one other time from 1991-93. The last three regional finals haven't been close: 81-39 over Millington in 2008, 77-37 over Pontiac Notre Dame in 2009 and 69-56 over Saginaw Swan Valley in 2010. Powers has won 12 regional championships.

Yale, on the other hand, has very little basketball tradition. The Bulldogs' 60-57 win over Bridgeport on Monday was their first win in regional competition since 1948, when they beat Detroit St. Catherine 46-37 in the first round of a three-round regional. This is Yale's first appearance in a regional championship game. Last year's district title was Yale's first since 1968.
