Tema gas explosion records one death

One of the casualties of Monday's gas explosion at Tema, Baba Issaka, 35, resident of Zenu in Ashaiman, has died. He was one of the 16 casualties rushed to the Tema General Hospital with various degrees of burns.

Seven were immediately referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and three have since been treated and discharged.

A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder exploded leading to a fire outbreak at a food joint at Ashaiman on Monday afternoon. A team from the Ghana National Fire Service, however, quickly extinguished the fire and rushed the casualties to the Hospital.

Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Employment, on Tuesday on behalf of President John Evans Atta Mills visited the family of Mr Issaka to commiserate with them. He explained to them that President Mills was in the Eastern Region visiting those affected by floods there.
