THE Bagisu circumcised a fellow student during the one-week Kyambogo University inter-cultural competitions.

Asurukamu Makabaya, a first-year student of diploma of guidance and counselling, was voluntarily circumcised at the finals of the competitions at the university on Thursday.

“The university organised this event and paid for all the expenses to give students from other regions an opportunity to know what takes place during this highly respected event,” Robert Webare, the Bagisu chairman, said.

The Bagisu emerged seventh, while the Baganda Nkobazambogo, last year’s winners, lifted the trophy again.

Nkobazambogo were given a bull, the Acholi, in the second position, were rewarded with four goats, Lango came third and were given three goats, Basoga came fourth (two goats), while the Iteso and Karimojong tied in fifth place and went with one goat each.

This was the eighth cultural competition at the university.

Handing over the prizes, Prof. Ndiege Omoro, the vice-chancellor, said: “We have to appreciate that there are a lot of differences among our cultures, but we all belong to the human race. These differences should not separate us, but bring as together to develop our mother country.”

He pledged to spearhead the organisation of the East African Inter-University Cultural Competition.
