BUGANDA Road Chief Magistrate Eleanor Khainza has threatened to issue an arrest warrant against Makerere University Vice-Chancellor Venansius Baryamureeba if he fails to appear in court on December 13, 2010.

This followed prosecutor Happiness Ainebyona’s request. “He is not above the law. Why does he send his lawyers instead of himself coming to court?”

asked Khainza. Baryamureeba is required to answer charges of malicious damage of property and theft of building materials worth sh140m($62.2K)  in a case filed by Steven Mukasa, a resident of Katanga in Makerere.

The property is said to have been destroyed during a land row between Mukasa and Makerere University. Mukasa said he had been occupying the eight acres piece of land on block 38 since 1983. Makerere University claims the land.
